Sophie Tanner
Research and Projects Manager
Sophie Tanner joined EFC in January 2011 as Education Projects Officer. Her responsibilities include carrying out project research, evaluations, project management and business processes. She is currently working on projects commissioned by the British Library/JISC, UNICEF and the EC.
With an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Language, Sophie has taught English as a foreign language in the UK, Poland and Japan, and taught in non-formal education centres in India, Kenya and Nigeria.
She completed her MA in Education and International Development from the Institute of Education in 2008, with modules covering issues around gender, planning, teachers and quality, and a dissertation which focussed on young people’s access to relevant education in urban settlements in Kenya.
In 2009, Sophie travelled to Northern Nigeria for a one-year VSO placement in the city of Kano. She worked with a major DfID-funded education programme on community participation, civil society engagement and access and equity for marginalized children, especially girls.
Sophie has extensive experience working with UK organisations on project support and management, research, communications and administration.
